Austria celebrated 25 European titles starting in 1952 by Robert Jacquemond until its current frontrunners Sabrina Filzmoser and Ludwig Paischer in 2008. The men won 8 titles, the women 17. Lupo Paischer was the only men to win the title twice, so in total 7 European male champions.
In the women’s category we have another topscorer by means of Gerda Winklbauer. She became European Champion U56kg from 1978 until 1983.
Edith Simon won ‘the double’ in 1982, in the same year that Herta Reiter won her title U61kg. Sabrina Filzmoser filled in a gap of 14 years without female European titles in 2008.
Edith Hrovath is the only one to win the title at home soil. In 1976 she collected the title in Vienna.
